The Averil Ma Lab
Welcome! We are an open, collaborative group part of the Department of Medicine, GI Division at the University of California, San Francisco. We study ubiquitin-dependent proteins that regulate autoimmune, inflammatory, and malignant human diseases. These proteins prevent disease through monogenic, polygenic, and epigenetic mechanisms. Much of our recent work has focused upon A20, ABIN-1, Tax1bp1, and their biochemical partners. We have discovered their critical functions in immune and tissue homeostasis, and we use these potent levers of cellular functions to uncover new pathways of disease and devise therapeutic strategies. Our collaborative studies integrate human and experimental genetics, high dimensional tissue profiling, mass spectrometry, proteomics, and CRISPR-based functional genomic approaches. If you are interested in learning more about our lab, please explore our research or contact us. We are affiliated with the UCSF ImmunoX Initiative, UCSF Cancer Center, Colitis and Crohn's Disease Center, and the BMS and Tetrad graduate research programs.
